I Survived My First Long Run!
I Survived My First Long Run!
This past Saturday I ran 14 miles for the first time in my life and I have thoughts.
First of all — I cannot believe people do this for fun. I mean, I signed up for the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon voluntarily, so I don't exactly have the moral high ground here. But 14 miles is a long time to be alone with your thoughts and the Lord.
What Happened Out There
Somewhere around mile 9, when my legs were starting to argue with my brain, I just started praying. Like, really praying. I prayed for the families Hope for San Diego serves. I prayed for the donors who've given so generously. I prayed for my teammates. And honestly? The miles started going faster.
I know that sounds cheesy. But there's something about running with purpose that changes the whole experience. I'm not just logging miles on Strava — I'm running for something real.
The Numbers (For My Fellow Data People)
- Distance: 14.2 miles
- Time: 2 hours 28 minutes (not fast, very sweaty)
- Elevation gain: 480 ft
- Prayers prayed: Countless
- Times I thought about quitting: 3 (but I didn't!)
Thank You
Every dollar raised for Hope for San Diego directly supports families in our city. If you haven't had a chance to give yet, head to the Donation page — even a small gift goes a long way. 💙
Next up: 16 miles. Pray for me.
